Honoring Suzanne Royce

Posted on
October 12, 2022

Suzanne Royce was one of the most influential and brilliant members of our Formula Hybrid + Electric family, and we will continue to honor her spirit, memory, and dedication to student competitions by awarding one team with the Scrutineers' Award during the 2023 competition. This award was founded by the FH+E family in 2022 in honor of Suzanne's memory, and the inaugural recipient was the Northeastern team.

We encourage teams to read about Suzanne's contributions to the world of Student Motorsport here, and to start preparing now for this prestigious recognition at the track in 2023.

The Suzanne Royce Scrutineers' Award:

This award recognizes the team that has best demonstrated overall preparedness in the 2023 Formula Hybrid + Electric competition.  Selection is based on the judgement of the Mechanical and Electrical Tech Inspectors who will decide which team arrived at the competition most ready to contend for a top spot in either the Hybrid or Battery Electric class.

This trophy is awarded in memory of Suzanne Royce, Mechanical Tech and Dynamic Event volunteer. Caring, knowledgeable, and dedicated to bringing out the best in student engineers, Suzanne was a mainstay of FH+E since its inception.  At all of levels of competition, Suzanne valued teams that were the best prepared.

Rule Revision: Energy Limits

Posted on
September 7, 2022

Please be sure to download the most updated version of the Rules for 2023, found here, and a note on the revision from our Chief Electrical Inspector below.

"We revised the rules for 2023 with the intent of simplifying battery capacity calculations. In particular, we now allow simple “nominal” voltage and AH ratings for calculating capacity. We also removed the lead-acid era capacity calculations that used the Peukert equation.

A part of that simplification was the removal of the 80% “usable capacity” factor. This had the inadvertent consequence of reducing the allowable pack size from 6.75 kWh to 5.4 kWh. We have revised the Rules for 2023 to allow the 80% factor."

Registration Dates for 2023
