We are running a stock single cylinder, carbureted, gas, snow blower engine. Does the stock gas cap (very basic) need to be retrofitted or replaced as in rules 3.5.6.5 and 3.5.6.2.

Does a disconnectable fuel line count as a "drain" rule 3.5.6.1.

Thanks,

Nick

If the stock gas cap has a simple hole in it for venting the tank you will need to add a check valve. This could be at the end of a hose attached to a barbed fitting brazed or silver-soldered to the cap. If the cap is plastic, there may be other ways to bond or fasten a hose.

The main criteria is that if the vehicle becomes inverted, there must be no fuel leakage from the tank.

The tab for sealing the tank could also be brazed, silver-soldered or otherwise fastened to the cap.

Removing the fuel line to drain the tank is not a good idea. I would suggest adding a real drain fitting to the lowest point on the tank. Remember there must be provision for safety wiring, per 3.5.6.1

Does anybody have any information on where a check valve can be purchased? Will a sealing PCV valve work?

Yeah I found those guys on a FSAE forum, I was hoping to find something I could physically inspect before I bought, rather than ordered off the internet. This seems like the way to go though. Thanks!
