It's been way too long since I've seen any post on here! Post an update with how your team is doing.
We just finished the front of our frame, and we tore down last year's car (Athena) to utilize as a solid-beam axle prototype. It is a couple days away from running, with our wheel packages and rear axle componentry all manufactured.

UCD is progressing well. Check out our site that is being updated continually on our chassis build at ucdfh.weebly.com. The chassis was tacked up in 6 days thanks to having Accurate Tube Bending CNC laser cut and bend our tubes for us. Seems like cheating. The powertrain will be an updated version of our first car with optimized packaging in our new chassis design. Those components will begin to be integrated into the new chassis next week hopefully. New composites will also be made for the body and seat. Their designs will be finalized this week and sent out for mold cutting shortly thereafter. Thanks for the thread start SJSU. Go Cali teams! FSAE has a very amazing knowledge base on their forums and we need to start building this forum too! Come on guys! Matt Klein UCDFH Team Lead: '09-'11

Hehe I think that Rule 2.2.1 does in fact define this as "cheating". That being said, our FSAE team did the same thing this year and obviously the majority of good formula student teams laser-cut their tubes.
You guys down for an autocross day soon???
Here is a pic of what we've done to Athena. I'll make a fun game of it and challenge everyone to point out as many rule violations as they can find. I am currently aware of 7.

No jack bar, no roll hoop supports, no upper harness/shoulder strap bar, no firewall, but it's hard to tell from that shot alone.

Where's the suspension?
We will be ready for an autocross day in about 1 month! That would be great to do up at Infineon if you would like to come up there.

Thanks for starting this thread! I'm excited to see how everyone else is doing. We ran our car for the first time in the parking lot last week. It was awesome to see it actually driving. There's still a lot to do. We just launched a website... http://byuracing.byu.edu we don't have anything up for the Formula Hybrid car yet, but we are going to be updating it in the future. Good Luck to everybody!

I have always liked reading these types of threads so let’s try to keep it going! IIT has also been progressing quite well. After a long 8 months of design we are finally deep into the process of constructing a brand new car for the 2011 season. Its design pulls some features from our 2009/2010 car but with a greatly streamlined high power drive system and a new emphasis on system weight. Don’t want to give away too much quite yet…. As for our build progress so far, the chassis has been completed. We are now working on adding all the required mounting tabs for things like the omron switches, restraint harness, pedals, ect. We have also been conducting lots of tests on premade carbon-fiber tubes with bonded aluminum inserts for our suspension with good results. Our lower carbon-fiber/aluminum A-arms have just been completed and show some significant weight savings. Attachment:

With all this going on our lone cnc, a Haas mini-mill, has been very busy pumping out numerous components for our suspension system and uprights/driveline. We are hoping to have all of our suspension components done in the next few weeks and a rolling car by the end of next month. So thanks SJSU for kicking off this thread and come on guys let’s try and get some more teams posting on here. It is great fun seeing how other teams are doing and the designs they come up with!

First of all, I hope that you all at Texas A&M find a way to get back on your feet and compete this year, and that the rest of the teams help out at competition if necessary (lend tools, parts, etc.). Good luck!
Meanwhile, the Formula Hybrid team at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo is approaching our Go/No-Go date of March 15th (which happens to be right in the middle of Finals week for us). The pieces are in place to have a running (but not quite competition-ready) vehicle by this weekend.

Sorry to hear about your car Texas, let us know if we can help. What was the cause? Hopefully you guys can recover and still make it to the race. BYU is still testing right now. We have the electric motor and gas engine working, and we are doing the body work. You can watch a time lapse here: http://vimeo.com/21090483

At about the half way point it seems like only 1 guy is doing all the work.

The attached picture if from April 8th when we had our final design review. Now its test test test. Weather hasn't been very cooperative in Utah. Hoping to get some good time in the parking lot.
