One of the two static events at the Formula Hybrid competition, the Design Event happens on the second day of the four-day event. In the Design Event, teams explain the design components of their vehicles to a panel of judges. After the team presentation, judges then quiz team members on each of their vehicle’s systems. For example, judges will ask the team members who designed a car’s suspension about the specifics of that system, and will then ask the team members who worked on the car’s electrical system about the details of that system.
“Everyone really enjoys the design event,” explain Jacob Kononiuk, a third-year student at the University of Waterloo. “It’s a great opportunity for a team to fully explain their car’s design. The other static Formula Hybrid event is the Business Presentation, which is great but tends to be more formal than the Design Event.”
