Day 4: The First Annual Formula Hybrid People’s Teen Choice Blogger’s Golden Spirit Award

As the official competition bloggers, it is our honor to give out the first annual Formula Hybrid People’s Teen Choice Blogger’s Golden Spirit Award. We’d like to take this time to acknowledge one of the best stories of this year’s competition. In a field full of viable contenders, this year’s award goes to Thomas Emerick of FSU/FAMU. Thomas exemplifies the hard work that goes into comp every year. With the help of welders and machinists on staff, he built the car as his senior design project, often being the sole person working on it. Despite these challenges, Thomas kept a positive attitude and brought the car to the Formula competition with just one other team member; teams need at least three drivers to complete the dynamic events. Thomas drove nearly 1,400 miles to represent his university and experience the excitement that is Formula Hybrid. He loves the camaraderie in the bays and did his best to help out by donating components to competing teams.

It was a great privilege to present the award to Thomas this morning. He was overwhelmed with emotions and taken aback by this great honor.
